The Lofoten Islands of Norway provide an arctic snowboard experience like no other. Located above the Arctic Circle west of Narvik, the archipelago is laden with deep fjords and precipitous mountains rising over 1000m. straight out of the sea. Connected to the Norwegian mainland by a series of bridges, the island chain provides amazing splitboarding descents in spectacular coastal landscapes Despite its location within the Arctic Circle, temperatures are due to ocean current influences relatively mild when compared to the usual extremes in other places during winter, providing comfortable touring conditions.
Powfinder goes Lofoten
The mountains rise precipitously from the sea, but the terrain has something for all abilities from gentle bowls to steep couloirs. Summits typically skied in the Lofoten Islands are less than 1100m high, with descents going all the way down to sea level. When spring arrives the days at Lofoten are getting longer which is ideal for touring. We have planned to visit the Lofoten Islands from 4-11 April 2021. From April on there is plenty of daylight with a sunset around 10pm.
The Lofoten Islands are draped across the turbulent waters of the Norwegian Sea, far above the Arctic Circle. This rare wilderness outpost offers an untrammelled landscape of majestic mountains, deep fjords, squawking seabird colonies and long, surf-swept beaches.
Lofoten has been certified as a Sustainable Destination, a seal of approval given to destinations that work systematically to reduce the negative impact of tourism. In addition to providing visitors with enjoyable experiences, Lofoten wishes to preserve the local nature, culture and environment, strengthen social values, and be economically viable. The municipality and the travel industry cooperate closely to assure that the destination is a great place both to live in and to visit.

WORRY FREE BOOKING
Winter '20-'21 has so far been dominated by COVID 19 and entering the Lofoten is restricted, but this can change in the near future. Maybe we are some of the lucky ones that might enter as of April. Let's hope for the best.
Our host offers worry free booking under the following conditions: If arrival is not possible due to official restrictions related to Covid-19, you can cancel free of charge until the day of your planned arrival! If the Lofoten are still closed but splitboarding in the Alps is possible again we might reschedule our trip to the Alps.
